On June 13, 2023, City Council adopted a new budget for the fiscal year 2023-2024. As part of this budget, they approved changes to the general employee pay scale, specifically increasing the minimum hourly pay for City of Lawton employees to $15 per hour.

This adjustment aligns with the recommendations provided by the JER HR Group in their recent Compensation and Classification Analysis. The recommendations include removing Grades 1, 2, and 3 (with the possibility of adding Executive Level 5) and repealing all previous general employee pay scales. These changes will take effect on July 1, 2023.

“Council partially approved the new pay scale for general employees,”Candy Brown, the Deputy Director of Human Resources, said. “With the changes to the pay plan, general employees are scheduled to receive at least a 5 percent increase. Also, with respect to the executive level positions, Council directed staff to bring back additional information. They requested that we compare the six peer cities to our executive level position to include salary ranges (floor to ceiling), qualifications, and job descriptions.”

City Council intends to further examine the executive level pay scale for future evaluation.
