Ayers Nursing Home was identified as the largest facility in Kiowa County for the first quarter of 2026, based on information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The center provided 97 beds, 19 more than the county average, in the initial quarter of the year. It served an average of 68.9 residents during that time frame.
The CMS gave Ayers Nursing Home an overall score of 3 out of 5, higher than the 2.7 average rating among nursing homes statewide in Oklahoma.
Hobart Nursing & Rehabilitation ranked second in size countywide, offering 58 beds in the same period.
As of the end of the first quarter of 2026, the facility maintained a record free of fines or penalties.
Kiowa County, Oklahoma, had two for-profit nursing homes in total.
U.S. Census Bureau data shows the country’s older population continues to rise as numbers of children fall. Between 2020 and 2024, the population of Americans age 65 and over climbed by 13%, while the under-18 group declined by 1.7%. Over the past century, the U.S. saw a sharp increase in its aging population, which grew from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 analysis indicates that about half this age group—an estimated 28 million—may require long-term services and support. Researchers also forecast that more than a third could eventually need nursing home assistance.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
