Cameron University Cameron Holds Third Place after First Round

Cameron men’s golf team finished the first round in third place on Sunday in the Writz at Mile High at the Bear Creek Golf Club. Preston Holmes and Hamish Murray lead the Aggies, wrapping up the day tied for 11th-place on the par-72, 6966 yards course.

Holmes and Murray carded a round-one score of 71. Holmes and Chris Somerfield made a team-time four birdies on the day, Trevor Mierl sunk three, while Joey Kirk, Murray, and Ethan Parker made two.

Mierl scored 72 and sits tied for 22nd, Kirk and Somerfield are tied for 31st with a round of 74, and Parker carded a 78 and is tied for 54th place. 

The team’s total score was 362 on the day, placing them two strokes back from Colorado Christian for second place and eight shots behind the Lone Star Conference foe West Texas A&M for the lead.

Nicholas Krantz from Fort Lewis, Kolton Baber and Luis Palomo of West Texas, and Peter Grossenbacher from Colorado Mesa are tied for the individual lead with a -4 after shooting a 68 on the day. 

The Aggies will return to the course for the second round on Monday.
