Longtime Cameron University employee Sarah Stroud has been named director of the university’s Open Doors and Upward Bound programs, following the retirement of Beth Gregory. Stroud, who joined the CU staff in 2001, was most recently assistant director of the Upward Bound program.
“Sarah Stroud is the ideal candidate to lead Cameron’s Open Doors and Upward Bound programs,” says Dr. Jerrett D. Phillips, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success. “Her expertise and knowledge of these federally funded programs will play a vital role in the success of our program participants as they prepare for a postsecondary education. During her career at Cameron, Sarah has positioned herself as a student-centered advocate whose diligence has a profound impact on the students with whom she works. Her enthusiasm for working with students and ensuring their success sets a high standard.”
In her new position, Stroud will manage the Talent Search and Upward Bound TRiO programs. Responsibilities include the administration and oversight of programs and personnel that ensure the efficient, equitable, and student-centered delivery of program services. Areas of oversight include strategic planning, compliance of federal and state laws and regulations connected to secondary and postsecondary education, secondary student recruitment within Lawton Public Schools and development of curriculum and activities to best serve under-represented students.
A Cameron alumna, Stroud joined the CU staff in 2001 as an academic advisor for the Open Doors/Talent Search program. She has served as the advisor for the Cameron University Nepalese Association, a student organization. Stroud earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology in 1999 and a Master of Science degree in Behavioral Sciences in 2003.
