Three Cameron women’s golf student-athletes, Iona Roska, Gerdur Ragnarsdottir, and Emma Englefield, earned the honor of WGCA All-American Scholars when the list was released earlier this month.
A total of 1,485 women’s collegiate golfers earned the prestigious honor for 2022. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics; the minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.
Roska, a fifth-year graduate from Inverness, Scotland, has accomplished a rare feat as she is one of just a few student-athletes in WGCA program history to earn the honor all five years of her collegiate career. She also made history in 2022 by being the first Cameron women’s golfer to qualify for the NCAA Division II West Regional, earning the top individual spot in the postseason tournament. In her final season as an Aggie, Roska had a team-best scoring average of 75.59 and finished ranked No. 26 in the region. She had seven top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish at the MSU Invitational in March.
Ragnarsdottir, a fourth-year player from Reykjavik, Iceland, earned her first WGCA All-American Scholar honor after a strong year on and off the course. She had a scoring average of 79.91 and was a top-105 player in the region. Ragnarsdottir had a pair of top-20 finishes including placing 11th with a two-round score of 154 at the CU-hosted Oklahoma Intercollegiate last October.
Englefield, a second-year Aggie from New Braunfels, Texas, played in 24 rounds last season with a scoring average of 82.79. Her best finish came at the MSU Invitational when she shot a 248 to place 27th in the three-round tournament.
Head coach Christi Williams’ Aggie teams have had at least two WGCA All-American Scholars since the 2016-17 season. This year, the women’s golf program had a team GPA of 3.351, fifth best in the department and the third highest of CU’s female programs.
