A City of Altus landfill employee, identified as Tonya Brand, was flown to an OKC hospital, in serious condition, after suffering injuries Tuesday morning. She later succumbed to her injuries.
Altus Police were notified at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning that a City of Altus employee was injured while operating a piece of heavy equipment. Tonya Brand was operating a 2006 Caterpillar Road Scraper & was wearing a seat belt, but she suffered arm, leg and internal injuries after traveling down a steep embankment. Altus Police were notified late Tuesday afternoon that Tonya Brand had succumbed to the injuries she received while at the City Landfill.
Assisting Altus Police in the investigation were the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Altus Fire Department, Jackson County EMS and Duke first responders. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
