Cameron University Aggies Hit the Road to Open Conference Play

The Aggies look to rebound as they head into their first two Lone Star Conference matches this week when they visit UT Tyler and Texas Woman's and Dallas Baptist. After starting the season 2-3, Cameron will continue their time away from the Aggie Gym, visiting UT Tyler on Wednesday at 5:30 pm and taking on Texas Woman's on Saturday at 1:00 pm for a pair of conference battles.

STARTING 5
1. Cameron is coming off back-to-back instate games. The Aggies fell to Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Baptist by less than 10 points.
2. Alena Wilson scored a combined 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the two games. Wilson averages 16.4 ppg and 7.8 rebounds to lead CU.   
3. UT Tyler is 5-2, tied for the second most wins in the LSC, under second-year head coach Rebecca Alvidrez led by a trio of players scoring over 10 points per game. Destini Whitehead leads the team with 13.7ppg, Montse Gutierrez averages 11.4, and Tina Machalova scores 11.3 a game. Gutierrez and Whitehead also average 2.6 steals per game.  
4. The Pioneers lead the LSC East Division with a 5-1 record. TWU has held their opponents to single-digit scoring in a quarter four times this season. Additionally, they force their opponents into an average of 16.7 turnovers per game. 
5. For the first time in TWU's program history, they appeared in a national poll. They were ranked in the recent D2SIDA National Poll at No. 23.

ABOUT THE AGGIES
The Aggies wrapped up their non-conference slate going 2-3 this season, averaging nearly 70 points on offense while giving up just over 76 points on the defensive end. For the LSC, Cameron comes into conference play in the middle of the pack. Alena Wilson leads the team in scoring and rebounds and shoots an efficient 46 percent from the floor. She ranks fourth in the LSC with her 16.4ppg and eighth with 7.8 rebounds. Korie Allensworth, Kailyn Lay, and Karley Miller all average over 10 points for the Aggies.

SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
UT Tyler has started the season off hot, winning five of their first seven games. They will come into the contest with the Aggies after a 67-57 loss to Henderson State. The Patriots have a scoring margin of +12.2 points while averaging 70.1 points per game and shooting 43 percent from the field. While knocking down a third of the three-point shots this season, their perimeter defense allows 9.1 three-pointers per game at a 30.0 percent clip. They are forcing 20.3 turnovers per outing.

LAST TIME AGAINST UTT
In five meetings against the Patriots, CU had won all games, including on Feb. 22, 2022, when they won 63-54 in overtime on their home floor. Katie King dropped 20 points, and Maighan Hedge added 16 points in the win. UT Tyler turned the ball over 26 times and shot 33 percent from the floor in the loss. Lovisa Hevinder was the top returning scorer from that game with 18 points.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Texas Woman's comes into the week with a 5-1 record. Their one loss was a 74-70 overtime loss at the hands of Harding, whom the Aggies beat the day before. TWU then ran the slate of Great American Conference foes, East Central, Southeastern Oklahoma State and Henderson State. They open LSC play Wednesday when they host Midwestern State before CU heads to Denton on Saturday. They are averaging 66.8 points per game while giving up 62.5 points. Ashley Ingram is leading three Pioneers in double figures with 14.5, Said Moyer adds 12.0ppg, and Ngozi Obineke averages 10.0 points.

LAST TIME AGAINST TWU
The Pioneers held off the Aggies' 19-point comeback before winning in the final seconds. The last time out was when they beat CU 65-61. Texas Woman's shot 48 percent from the floor and outrebounded Cameron by 20 in the win. Ingram was vital to the victory, scoring a game-high 21 points and grabbing eight rebounds, while Keslyn King added 11 points. CU struggled from three, going 7-25, they were led by Maighan Hedge with 21 points, and Stephanie Peterson added 13.

WHO HAS NEXT
The Aggies are set to host their first LSC games in 2022 in front of the home crowd next week when they host St. Mary's on Saturday, Dec. 10, and then St. Edwards on Monday, Dec. 12. They then conclude the first half of the season with a game at Southwestern Oklahoma State and then hosting Midwestern State.
