Cameron women's basketball fell to UT Tyler 61-58 in the Lone Star Conference opener on Wednesday evening inside the Herrington Patriot Center.
With the loss, the Aggies fall to 2-4 on the season and 0-1 in the LSC. The defeat is the first in the series short history with the Patriots, in which CU leads 5-1 all-time.
Korie Allensworth led the shorthanded Aggies with 17 points, six rebounds, and a steal, while Alena Wilson recorded back-to-back double-doubles with 14 points and 12 rebounds, to go with two steals and an assist.
Cameron was without Kiara Lovings, Karley Miller, and Mikayla Peterson in the conference opener Wednesday.
Katie King turned in eight points, Taliyah Johnson scored five, Kailyn Lay and Kloe Heidebrecht scored four, and Hallie Horton and Lindsey Waits added two points.
Lay dished out a team-high six assists, King recorded four, while Heidebrecht and Wilson added one.
Wilson led the game with 12 rebounds, Allensworth and Leslie pulled in six, King and Lay grabbed four rebounds, and Heidebrecht and Johnson snagged a rebound.
UT Tyler scored the first five points before King made the first shot for the Black-and-Gold four minutes into the game. Cameron would battle, bringing the game within a point at 9-8 after Horton made two free throws. The Patriots closed the first quarter on a 6-2 stretch to lead 15-10 after one.
UT Tyler would go on a 9-2 run in the second frame over the first five minutes, helped by Cameron shooting 1-8. CU would wake up for the final three minutes of the first half, going on their own 9-2 run to cut the deficit to five points at the break, trailing 26-21.
The Aggies would hold the scoring advantage in the second half, but that was not enough to overcome UT Tyler. Seven players recorded points in the third quarter for CU, led by Allensworth with five points. The Black-and-Gold would outscore Tyler 18-17 in the quarter to head into the final frame down four at 43-39.
The Aggies would open the fourth quarter on a 6-2 run to knot the score at 45-45. The Patriots would respond with a 10-4 rally to take a 55-49 lead with just under four minutes to play. Cameron would finish the game with a scoring advantage of 9-6. CU would fall to UT Tyler by three points at 61-58.
