University of Tulsa football student-athlete Bryson Powers was named to the 2022 Academic All-America second team for football as selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
Powers, a graduate student from Spring, Texas, already earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with a 3.70 grade point average from Tulsa and has maintained a 4.0 GPA in the MBA program.
The nickel safety completed five seasons with 238 tackles, 4.5 TFL for -12 yards, nine pass breakups, seven forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one interception in 58 career games.
In 2022, Powers was credited with 99 tackles, second on the team, while adding four TFL for -11 yards, one sack for -6 yards, three pass breakups and one forced fumble in 12 starts. He had three games with double-figure tackles, including a career-high 13 against Northern Illinois and totaled seven games with at least nine stops.
Powers finished his career with five career double-digit tackle games.
His selection marks the 13th time that a Tulsa football student-athlete received Academic All-America honors, but just the 10th player overall. The first CSC Academic All-American in football for Tulsa was receiver Howard Twilley in 1964 and the latest was quarterback Paul Smith in the 2007 season.
